1) South Shore Explorations: Duxbury’s Hidden Gems
Sponsored by the North River Wildlife Sanctuary of Mass Audubon, South Shore Explorations are a series of half day trips to explore some of the lesser known parts of the South Shore of Boston. Take advantage of this unique opportunity on Saturday, February 25th, from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm to view all of the conservation areas in Duxbury, MA. There will be short walks here and there, and participants are encouraged to bring their own picnic lunches. This is an all ages event to reveal some of the habitats tucked away in Duxbury. Meet at the North River Wildlife Sanctuary office, 2000 Main Street in Marshfield and discover forests, thickets, marshes and meadows.
The cost for this South Shore exploration is $12 for adults and $8 for children. Non members are $15 and $11 respectively. For more information, or to make your reservation, call 781-837-9400, ext. 7902, or visit the Mass Audubon website.
2) Peddocks Island Winter Wander
If you think you might be feeling adventurous in a nautical set of way this weekend, consider the Peddocks Island Winter Wander on Saturday, February 25th, from 11:30 am until 3:00 pm. A $20 ticket gets you on a heated ferry that lands at Peddocks Island where a guided walk ensues. Look for winter tracks, bring a lunch, camera and binoculars for this all ages exploration of one of Boston Harbor’s islands. The ferry departs from Long Wharf in downtown Boston.
Space is limited, so reserve your seat in advance by visiting the Boston Harbor Islands website.
3) Great Books You May Have Missed
The Hingham Public Library wants to share some ideas of what to read next in the ‘Great Books You May Have Missed’ discussion with Collection Development Librarian and Readers’ Advisor, Peter Thornell. Most of us have a long list of want-to-read books and it can certainly be difficult to pick what book is next in line. Instead of sticking to the same genre and author, break out and discover something new at the Hingham Public Library on Saturday February 25th, 11:00 am until 12 noon. Those attending are always welcome to share their thoughts on their own list of “must read” titles.
This is a free event and refreshments wi be available. For more information, please visit the Hingham Public Library website or call 781-741-1405.
Introducing Hoopla is actually not a weekend event, however, because it involves a way to borrow music, audiobooks, and digital movies to then view on your computer, Kindle Fire, iPad, iPhone, Android or other device, it is a valuable event. On Monday, February 27th from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm, you can come to Hingham Public Library at 66 Leavitt Street in Hingham and set up a Hoopla account. The class will be held in the Training Room and you will learn how to search the catalog and borrow materials. Hoopla is only available to Hingham cardholders so please bring your library card to class. You use the library computers, or bring the device you plan to use.

5) Creative Kids and Tots

The class takes place on Saturday, February 25th, from 9:00 am until 10:00 am at the Braintree Community Arts Center, 1969 Washington Street in Braintree. The cost is $10, all materials are provided and one parent or adult must stay with the child in the class. It is best to sign up since only 12 children are in each class.
