1) “Theory of Shiny Things” Exhibit Opening
Coming up this Friday, November 11th at 6:00 pm the South Street Gallery, 149 South Street in Hingham is hosting an opening reception for an exhibit opening titled the “Theory of Shiny Things.” There are theories about our attraction to shiny things, among them that our ability to find water is critical for the survival of all living things. Artist Sue Charles said, “For a long time I have been intrigued by this thought and for the past year and I have focused on it in my work.” Her exhibit “Theory of Shiny Things” will be on display at South Street Gallery starting on Sunday, November 11th and running through December 9th.

2) South Shore Exploration Trip
On Saturday, November 12th starting at 10:00 am, join our local Mass Audubon at the North River Wildlife Sanctuary, 2000 Main Street in Marshfield for several exploratory sessions by van to some of our most compelling but lesser-known natural history spots. “Hidden pockets of striking beauty are often the reward for curiosity” and Mass Audubon day trip leaders will make sure to investigate what is around every corner while focusing on a variety of habitats and ecosystems. This trip is appropriate for all ages and the cost is $15 for nonmember adults, and $12 for a member adult, $11 for nonmember children and $8 for children who are members. Please dress for the weather and bring a picnic lunch for each person in your party.

3) 5th Annual Myles Standish Marathon
The 5th Annual Myles Standish Marathon & Marathon Relay is being held this Sunday, November 13th starting at 8:00 am in the Myles Standish State Forest, Alden Road/Upper College Pond Road in Plymouth. This is a USATF Certified Boston Marathon Qualifier that ends at Plymouth North High School. The 2016 course will stage at the utility area on Alden Road/Upper College Pond Road in the Myles Standish State Forest, with the starting line a short walk from there. The finish line will be located on the new campus of Plymouth North High School. The first 16 miles of the course are within the State Forest and include many long hills. Parking for this popular marathon is managed by shuttles for full marathon runners as there is no on course parking. There will be parking available along Snake Hill Road behind the staging area for the start of the race only.
4) SFX Fall Back 5K Race & Walk
The SFX Fall Back 5K Race & Walk at Wompatuck State Park, 204 Union Street, in Hingham is being held this Sunday, November 13th, starting at 8:30 am. The 5K running or walking course is on all paved roads. The Saint Francis Xavier School in Weymouth is proud to host this event and to offer Celtics and Bruins tickets as prizes. There is also a Youth one mile dash, a Kid’s Dash, and tons of family activities. You can even let your pooch enter the race and the first dog over the finish line will receive a prize. Cost to register for the race is between $15 and $25.

5) Scituate High School Craft Fair
The Scituate High School Craft Fair is happening this Saturday, November 12th starting at 10:00 am and running until 3:00 pm. It is a kid friendly shopping experience with over 50 vendors, a full on craft fair, and plenty of things to do. Enjoy lunch made by the Silent Chef, stop by the kids’ corner, participate in the raffle, and have your gifts wrapped in exchange for a donation. The fair is taking place in Scituate High School’s Large Gym (back of building), 606 Chief Justice Cushing Hwy in Scituate. Cost is a $1 suggested donation or a food pantry item, and condiments are suggested.
