5 Things to do in and Around Hingham This Weekend

1) World’s End Art Installation Features Mirrored Labyrinth
Bring your camera for this unique event! In addition to painting activities, the Trustees at World’s End will host an opening reception with the Berlin and Copenhagen-based artist, Jeppe Hein, on Sunday, September 18, 2016 from 8:30 am until 4:00 pm as she creates a site-specific project. The artist’s work often combines elements of humor with minimalism and conceptual art. For this current projects titled “Art and The Landscape,” Hein draws inspiration from the natural beauty and landscape at World’s End, which features a combination of Frederick Law Olmsted-designed and natural landscapes with spectacular views of the Boston harbor and skyline. Hein will install a reflective labyrinth installation, made of mirrored posts of differing heights, whose structure mimics the shape of the surrounding drumlin formations. Visitors can walk through the labyrinth, touch the mirrored panels, and create their own photographic interpretations of “art and the landscape.” The sculpture will be on-site for a full year, allowing visitors to experience the transformation of the piece in different seasons.

2) Billingsgate Farm Plympton Corn Maze
Billingsgate Farm, at 6 County Road in Plympton, MA starts their corn maze season on Saturday, September 17th and celebrates the opening with a wide range of family attractions including their GIANT, 3 acre corn maze, wagon rides, a pumpkin patch, concessions, and more! The corn maze features twisting pathways, questions and answers, and picture rubbings making it an educational game. The farm is open only weekends through the 30th of October. Hours are 10:00 am until 6:00 pm and admission prices are $10.95 for adults and $9.95 for children. Children under 2 are free and all kids must be accompanied by an adult.

3) Farm Day in Duxbury
On Saturday, September 17th, come to O’Neil’s Farm at 146 Winter St. in Duxbury, MA for the annual open house event in collaboration with the Duxbury’s Food and Wine Festival. Farm Day starts at 11:00 and runs until 3:00 pm. Browse the farmer’s market and vendors offering seasonal fresh and organic food choices as well as our annual milking demonstration, newly born calves, kid’s crafts and old-fashioned games. The event is free.

4) 40th Annual Corn Festival at South Shore Natural Science Center
It’s a big weekend at South Shore Natural Science Center in Norwell MA as they celebrate their 40th Annual Corn Festival on Saturday and Sunday, September 17th and 18th, from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm both days. The festivities include pony rides, hay rides, crafts, drumming, and music. The South Shore Natural Science Center is located at 48 Jacobs Lane. Non-members pay $8 for children and $10 for adults – $2 less for members.

5) Endless Summer Festival in Hull
Not to be missed, the12th Annual Endless Summer Waterfront Festival at Nantasket Beach is happening this weekend, Saturday, September 17th, starting at 12:00 and running until 5:00 pm. Note that the rain date for this is event is the following day, Sunday, September 18th. The Endless Summer Waterfront Festival is a free event hosted by the Hull Nantasket Chamber of Commerce and is a celebration of Hull and all that the South Shore summers have to offer.
