5 Things to do in and Around Hingham This Weekend
Brought to you by Hingham Realtor Alice Pierce
1) 2nd Annual Harbor Dash Race on Peddocks Island (yes there is a ferry)
Sunday, September 11th marks one of the South Shore’s most interesting runs. The Harbor Dash takes place on Peddocks Island starting with packet information pick up at ferry shuttle locations at 8:15 am. There is a ferry departure scheduled from Long Wharf in Boston at 9:00 to return at 12:15. This ferry will be limited to 200 runners and 30 spectators. There is another ferry from the Hingham Shipyard leaving at 9:15 am and returning at 12:30. The Hingham ferry is limited to 250 runners and 50 spectators. The course itself goes through many of the old buildings and the ruins of Fort Andrews before getting to the coastal path with great views of Boston, Hull and Hingham Bay. This is a rain or shine event, and lunch is provided. The 5k Race will begin at 10:30 and a kid’s run will start at 11:15 AM.
There will be no race day registration. Please visit The Hingham Harbor Dash website to register ahead of time.
2) Hingham High School Car Wash
On Sunday, September 11th, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm, the Hingham High School Field Hockey team is holding a fundraising carwash. HOWEVER, due to recent water restrictions and being environmentally aware, the team will be vacuuming and shining the interior of cars. Stop by 738 Main Street in Hingham to get rid of all that excess sand and summer build up in your cars interior. Your donation will directly benefit the Hingham High School Field Hockey program.
Please direct any questions to via email to email@example.com or visit the Hingham Public High School website.
3) Scituate Garden Club’s Flower Show
The Scituate Garden Club’s Flower Show is this Saturday, September 10th starting at 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. It is being held at St. Mary of the Nativity Parish Center, 2 Edward Foster Road in Scituate and the admission is free to come peruse the plant horticulture displays and flower design. The theme for this show is “birthday party,” in light of the club’s 100th anniversary this year. Some of the highlights include a “Birthday Piñata” that features hanging designs and “Party Hats.” In the Horticultural Division there will be flowering perennials and annuals, vegetables and a Junior Section for Scituate youth. The accredited judges will be from The Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts. Awards include Design Excellence and Horticultural Excellence. Come see which entries collect awards!

4) Stars of Gold Walk for Childhood Cancer
On Sunday, September 11th, the “Stars of Gold Walk,” a 5k family walking event and fundraiser is being held at Quincy’s Pageant Field, 1 Southern Artery in Quincy. The walk itself starts at 10:00 AM, with participant registration open at 8:30 am. Registration for the event is $20 per person, with a family discount available. All participants will receive an exclusive event T-shirt.
This is a family and pet-friendly off-street walk that will be held rain-or-shine. In addition to the walk itself, there will be many interesting activities like nail painting, lawn games, and human-sized hamster balls, all at an additional cost. Prizes will be awarded for the most pledges raised, by an individual child, adult, and team; the largest team to register, the most enthusiastic walker, the best-sport pet, and owner/pet look-alike! During the awards ceremony, Quincy Mayor Koch will award a check to a local family touched by this disease.
The Stars of Gold Walk is organized by This Star Won’t Go Out, a Quincy based 501c3 charity supporting families who have a child diagnosed with cancer. So far the organization has given out $400,000 in financial grants to pay for expenses not covered by insurance, including mortgage, utilities, and travel.
