5 Things to do in and Around Hingham This Weekend

It is Fair and Festival Season on the South Shore of Boston. See a sampling of fairs and festivals this weekend and a time and date summary at the end of the listings.
1) 149th Marshfield Fair
It is opening day at the Marshfield Fairgrounds for the traditional summertime favorite the Marshfield Fair. Today, Friday, August 19th, at 10 am is the official opening of its 149th season!! It was 1867 when the first fair was held on the same 62 acres that is takes place on today. It is one of the few fairs left featuring 4-H competition. Art exhibits, agricultural displays, music of multiple genres and the favorite demolition derby and tractor pulling all happen alongside the rides and vendors. Tickets to get in are $10 per person and children under 6 get in for free.

2) Greek Festival
The Panagia Parish will be hosting a Greek Festival on Saturday, August 20th from 11 am until 8 pm, 811 Jerusalem Road in Cohasset. Come to this picturesque church and eat some Greek food, taste some wine and listen to some music.

3) August Moon Festival
The 29th Annual August Moon Festival is on Sunday, August 21st starting at 11 am until 5 pm at the North Quincy MBTA parking lot. This a a completely free event and wonderful for the entire family. Food, amusements, pony rides, a dunk tank and a full schedule of performances are on tap. The opening ceremony at 11 am features a lion dance so get there early. There will be free parking at the State Street Lot and Granite Lot.

4) Kingston Waterfront Festival
The Kingston Waterfront Festival is on Saturday, August 20th from 10 am until 7 pm at Gray’s Beach Park,
This is their first Waterfront Festival and should be a great summer event complete with kayaking, regatta, car show, storytelling, music and food.
5) Plymouth Air Show
Come to the Plymouth Air Show on Saturday, August 20th, from 10 am until 2 pm and watch amazing aerial displays of all sorts. The event is at the Plymouth Airport, 246 South Meadow Rd and watch helicopter demonstrations, or take an airplane or helicopter ride. See the amazing athletics of real aerobatics. Tickets are $10 per car.
