5 Things to do in and Around Hingham This Weekend

1) Model Railway Club Open House
The South Shore Model Railway Club Summer Open House will be on Saturday August 6th, from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm. It’s supposed to be a super hot day, so come marvel at these intensely detailed models in air conditioned comfort. There will be multiple trains running which is truly a treat to see. The club location is at 52 Bare Cove Park Drive, about 1/10 of a mile west of The South Shore Country Club, and directly across from the West Hingham T Station. Admission is only $2 and kids under 4 get in for free.
2) Tour Boston Light
On Sunday, August 7th, from 11:30 (prompt boat departure) until 2:30 pm, take a tour of Boston Light with a convenient departure from Pemberton Point Ferry Terminal, 180 Main St, in Hull. Join a National Park Service Ranger and the United States Coast Guard, for an enjoyable and adventurous tour. Traveling into Boston Harbor and Little Brewster Island, where you will hear a historic overview of Boston Harbor and see the unique perspectives of Boston. Boston Light is the first and oldest lighthouse station in the country, and the last light station in the country to be staffed by a US Coast Guard light keeper. Ticket are non-refundable, except for weather or wind related cancellations and prices vary and one can choose to climb the lighthouse as well. Please note that the dock at Hull is not wheelchair accessible.

3) Boston Grown-Ups Museum Olympic Games
Although this is in Boston, it sounds like such a unique and fun event. The Boston Children’s Museum is opening on Wednesday August 10th, from 6:30 pm until 10:00 pm but no children allowed! Race to the top of the three-story climb, or blow a giant bubble, build a towering fortress or a “big kid” sized fort, and explore your hidden talents in the Art Studio. Competitions abound but are not at all necessary to enjoy the evening out. Gold, Bronze and Silver medals awarded and a special “Winner’s Lounge” set up for the show-offs to enjoy each other’s company. Basically, this is your chance to play, without your children and with other grown-ups who also want to play. Included in the “games” is a Margarita Bar, Brazilian BBQ, and fully stocked bars. All bars and food stations accept cash and credit cards. Please bring a valid form of identification. ADVANCED REGISTRATION is required
4) Church Yard Sale in Scituate
It is yard sale season and Scituate is in on the action. Come to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church at the Corner of First Parish Rd and Rte. 3A in Scituate peruse the tables and baked goods on Saturday, August 6th, from 7:30 am until 11:30 am. There will also be a pancake breakfast served by the Scituate Rotary Club. Some of the anticipated items are: Home decor, dishes, linens, books, games, small furniture, tools, bikes, kayaks and outdoor recreation equipment.
5) Community Yard Sale
If you have stuff squirreled away for that yard sale you are going to have someday, consider hauling it to the Heritage United Methodist Church, 236 Grove Street, in Braintree, for a community yard sale. The yard sale is happening on Saturday, August 6th from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm. Fees for a 10’x15′ outdoor space are $30 and there is plenty of off-street parking on this well-travelled street.
