1) Hingham Farmers’ Market

The Hingham Farmer’s Market is open on Saturday, May 28th, from 10:00 am until 2:00 at Hingham Town Hall, 210 Central Street. The Hingham Farmers Market is the third oldest farmers’ market in Massachusetts and has been providing the opportunity to buy local produce since 1977. Over 35 produce and product vendors supply the weekly market with produce, meat, fish, poultry, baked goods, honey, jam, plants and cut flowers. In addition, several local artists add more color to the market. The market opens weekly until Thanksgiving. Please note that the location is NOT at the Hingham Bathing Beach due to the construction there.

2) Spring Planting Moon Powwow

The Massachusetts Center for Native American Awareness will be holding their annual Spring Planting Moon Powwow on Saturday & Sunday, May 28th and 29th, from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm on the Marshfield Fairgrounds. Native American artisans will demonstrate a number of traditional crafts including wampum making, basket making, bead & quillwork, and finger weaving. A special treat will feature seven-time Native American Music Awards winner, Joseph Fire Crow of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe. Interactional workshops and storytelling is available for children, and Native food, arts and crafts will be for sale. Some of the food offerings include buffalo burgers, elk chili, fry bread, Indian tacos, frog legs, and corn soup. It is suggested that you brings a lawn chair or blanket. Fees are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, $3 for children and free for children under 3 years old.

3) Memorial Day Ceremony in Hingham

The Town of Hingham Department of Veterans’ Services and the Hingham Veterans’ Council will be holding the Annual Memorial Day Observance on Monday, May 30th, at 11:00 am on Hingham Town Common. The Hingham High School Band will perform several pieces of patriotic music, including our National Anthem, and Officials’ remarks will be followed by the reading of names of those Hingham Veterans who have passed since Memorial Day 2015. Wreaths will be laid in honor of all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Rifle Salutes, Bugle Calls, and Flag Honors will be followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Principal Speaker will be Hingham native: Major Michael Manning, US Army, Secretary of the General Staff, Joint Force Headquarters, Rhode Island National Guard. All Veterans and their families are invited to lunch at the GAR Hall and student participants will be treated to Nona’s ice creams on the Common. In the event of rain, the ceremony will take place at Sanborn Auditorium in the Hingham Town Hall.


4) Plymouth Rock Assurance Jazz Fest

The annual Plymouth Rock Assurance Jazz Fest opens at 7:30 pm on Friday, May 27th at The Spire Center for the Arts in Plymouth, on 25 1/2 Court St. Opening night features performances by the Greg Abate Quintet and Donna Byrne and The Marshall Wood Trio. Performances run throughout the weekend and tickets can be purchased online at the Spire Center for Performing Arts website.


5) Everybody Loves the Food Truck Rodeo

On Friday, May 27th, a Food Truck Rodeo is happening at the old South Weymouth Naval Air Station in Weymouth, now called SouthField. The food event runs from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm and includes music by country singer Kristen Merlin of Hanson. There will also be more than 20 food trucks, face-painting, lawn games and other activities. Admission is free.
