5 Things to do in Hingham This Weekend

1) Hingham High School Presents, “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare; Abridged.”

The Hingham High Drama Club performs a comedic, energized parody called, “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare; Abridged” on Friday, May 6th and Saturday, May 7th at 7:30pm in the Hingham High School auditorium. This quick-witted performance covers 37 of Shakespeare’s plays in less than two hours with much racing about, costume changes and the seemingly impossible. It sounds like a night to remember.

Tickets are $7 for students and senior citizens and $10 for everyone else. You can purchase ticket through the front office, from any cast or crew member, or at the door the night of the show. For more detailed information visit the Hingham High School Drama Club web page.

2) The 60th Annual Arts Festival

The Second Parish in Hingham, 685 Main Street, is hosting its 60th Annual Arts Festival on Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7th, from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM, and on Sunday, May 8, from noon until 4:00 PM. Saturday at 7:00 PM enjoy a program of music called, “Of Wind and Water” by the Hingham Singers Concert. This is one of the South Shore’s most popular art events featuring the work of over 200 artists. There is also a Junior artist exhibit with over 350 pieces of student art bring some whimsy to the colorful event

For the Saturday night concert tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. You can purchase these tickets at the Second Parish or Artisans in the Square, 63 South Street in downtown Hingham. 3) South Shore Conservatory Presents Music to the Future

The South Shore Conservatory presents a themed collection of performances called “Music to the Future,” on Saturday, May 7, from 4:30 to 9:00 PM at One Conservatory Drive in Hingham. This is a free event where all audience members are invited to participate in workshops and performances by South Shore Conservatory faculty, students, and guests. Planned is a group rhythm circle, workshops on home recording, a pizza break and many performances.

4) Hingham High School Crew Rows on Home Waters

This is a rare opportunity to see the Hingham High School Crew on home waters. Hingham High will row against Tabor Academy Crew on the Back River in Bare Cove Park on Sunday, May 8, starting at approximately 11:30 am. The competition will feature four races each for the boys and girls teams. Tabor will field eight varsity boats while Hingham will be rowing ten boats. There will also be dedication of a new, state of the art eight-person racing shell to be named “Diligent” after the sailing vessel that brought the first settlers to Hingham from England in 1638. The townspeople of Hingham, England have sent water consecrated by the Reverend Colin Reed to be used for christening the boat. Parking will be at Lynch Field, 226 Beal Street with signs directing spectators to the viewing area along the riverbank. A hospitality tent will be available to current and alumni rowers and their families.

5) Now for Something Completely Different!

Aquarion Water Company will host their yearly open house on Saturday, May 7 from 9:30 AM until 12:30 PM at the water treatment plant, 900 Main St. It is a chance to learn about the local water system, how to use less water, and how our water is treated and delivered through 190 miles of water mains in Hingham, Hull and parts of Cohasset. This is also a family event. There will be a water treatment plant scavenger hunt with prizes awarded, and photo opportunities with Aquarion’s mascot, “Thirsty,” and tours of the water plant. Coffee, bagels and of course water will be served.
